Dare to Lead™ – Learning to be brave with your life

Part 1 on 21 April 2020

&

Part 2 on 6 October 2020

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Due to lockdown the 21 April was a virtual taster session (using Zoom) 6.30- 8.00pm and the follow up  will  take place on 6 October online also. This session was recorded.

The event details for 21 April were:

Daring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, lead with empathy and connection, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – especially when it’s tough.

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-building program…what Brené refers to as a “skill-based playbook for leaders.” The most significant finding from her latest research is that courage is not an inherent quality (you either have it or you don’t) but rather it is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. These skill sets are:

  • Rumbling with Vulnerability:Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity.
  • Living into our Values:Identifying, operationalising, and practicing the beliefs that we hold most important.
  • BRAVING Trust:Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams based on the seven elements of trust.
  • Learning to Rise:Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives.

Whether you are leader at work, a leader at home or recognise the importance of leading yourself, this session is for you.

On 21 April, we explored the four courage-building skillsets and shared some activities and ideas. The session was brilliant and the follow up session- Part 2 is again online and is on 6 October.  Looking forward to seeing you then if not before!

Melissa Hague has been a Learning & Development professional for over twenty years, focussing on all aspects of leadership development. Alongside developing others, she is obsessed with her own personal development, believing that to do ‘the work with others’ you must first ‘do the work yourself’. This brought her to the work of Dr Brené Brown, and she has been on quite the journey ever since. In 2019 Melissa was blessed with the opportunity to train with Brené herself and become a Certified Dare to Lead Facilitator. Her strong desire now is to share this important work with others on their own personal development journeys

Creating Heart-Led Goals

Creating Heart-Led Goals

24 January 2017

We got 2017 off to a great start with this session, where Marie helped us create goals that tap into our emotional well-being.

Creating our goals (both work and home-related) to lead a holistic and well-balanced life are usually head-led (using logic), rather than heart-led (using emotion). This event supported us to explore ways of tapping into our emotions and use these to create powerful, compelling goals.

From the event:

Marie Smith

My whole career has been focused on supporting people to be the best they can be benefiting not only themselves, but also the organisations they work for, or with, and their families and friends

During my thirty years in learning and development, leadership and coaching I have worked in and with private, public, higher education and not-for-profit sectors.  I feel very grateful and lucky to work with some amazing and inspirational people and organisations. I established my own leadership development and executive coaching business, SUCCESSMITH, in 2012. I continue to enjoy working with a variety of organisations and individuals to support and co-create transformational change.

My passion is supporting people to understand what success means to them and go for what they really want out of life. I specialise in coaching and facilitating the development of leaders in organisations, departments, and teams. I also work on a one-to-one basis with private individuals.

I particularly enjoy supporting all genders, and particularly women, to define and achieve their ‘life purpose’ by overcoming tangible or imagined obstacles.

I feel very privileged that through SUCCESSMITH and through my work with the Aspiring Women Groups, I am able to support others by ‘being the spark that lights the flame for transformational change’, and this is what makes me smile and gives me a reason to get out of bed in the mornings!
