Dare to Lead™ – Learning to be brave with your life

Part 1 on 21 April 2020

&

Part 2 on 6 October 2020

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:

Due to lockdown the 21 April was a virtual taster session (using Zoom) 6.30- 8.00pm and the follow up  will  take place on 6 October online also. This session was recorded.

The event details for 21 April were:

Daring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, lead with empathy and connection, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – especially when it’s tough.

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, Dare to Lead™ is an empirically based courage-building program…what Brené refers to as a “skill-based playbook for leaders.” The most significant finding from her latest research is that courage is not an inherent quality (you either have it or you don’t) but rather it is a collection of four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. These skill sets are:

  • Rumbling with Vulnerability:Facing risk, uncertainty, and emotional exposure with courage and clarity.
  • Living into our Values:Identifying, operationalising, and practicing the beliefs that we hold most important.
  • BRAVING Trust:Creating or deepening connections in relationships and teams based on the seven elements of trust.
  • Learning to Rise:Learning and growing from the failures, setbacks, and disappointments that are inevitable when we are brave with our lives.

Whether you are leader at work, a leader at home or recognise the importance of leading yourself, this session is for you.

On 21 April, we explored the four courage-building skillsets and shared some activities and ideas. The session was brilliant and the follow up session- Part 2 is again online and is on 6 October.  Looking forward to seeing you then if not before!

Living Your Best Life In 2020

Living Your Best Life in 2020

21 January 2020

Starting any New Year off with positive intentions and leaving the bits of the old year behind that will not serve us well in the future is a common ritual. New Year resolutions can be hollow and short lived. Living your Best Life is different. It is designed to have longer lasting and further reaching outcomes!

Creating a fulfilling life for yourself could mean finding a new job (paid or voluntary) that fits your talents, getting a better work/life balance or it may be redesigning your leisure time. Whatever it meant it was a perfect backdrop for joining us on this ‘Living Your Best Life in 2020’ session.

During this facilitated session we created our own personal intentions for 2020 that aligned with what resonated with us as individuals.  We laid down the foundations for creating a fulfilling life for ourselves in 2020 and beyond.

From the event:

– That was amazing, thank you!

– Found the visualisation useful to identify values that I didn’t previously prioritise

– A great subject and my first Aspiring Women’s group which has done the job

– Interesting models and different perspectives

– A really great topic, made me think about my intentions and what I really want for the year ahead

Knowing Your Worth

Knowing Your Worth

Understand : Dare : Thrive

22 Oct 2019

In this session, Diana explored why ‘knowing your worth’ resonates so loudly with women today. By addressing the real causes, the topic can be silenced, and you’ll be able to reap the rewards.

The session gave us:

  • insights into the psychological dynamics of insidious micro-behaviours which make issues such as asking for a pay rise, a better bonus or a promotion so deeply difficult for many women
  • the facts about the issue and we discovered why addressing it is crucial
  • learned how to articulate the truth about your value and potential, using straight-forward frameworks to make a fast start
  • practical, accessible and non-intimidating strategies to secure recognition, opportunities, support and rewards

This session drew on the 10 years of pioneering research by The Women’s Sat Nav to Success and shared stories and quotes from some of the 45 female leaders interviewed by Diana for her book: The Women’s Sat Nav to Success: how to have your best career.

Special Offer: Aspiring Women have negotiated a 10% discount for members who want to order Diana’s book, which is with the crowdfunding publisher Unbound

Mindfulness

16 July 2019

“Mindfulness is not only life changing but also saves lives”

At our July event, Michelle Locke took us on a tour of Mindfulness and shared some simple but amazing tools and techniques to explain how to recognise and change our thought patterns. She also showed us how we all see things in such a different way and how this affects how we feel about ourselves and other people. It was an evening of discovery for us!

Michelle says that Mindfulness can help people to understand their mind better and the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these can impact and cause anxiety, depression, low moods and negativity. Mindfulness shows us how to understand and interrupt these patterns and to recognise what is real and what is thought.

From the event:

“Brilliant session. I’ve made progress in bringing mindfulness into my day and this has given me some more tips to use. Thank you :-)”

“Thought-provoking session thank you!”

“As a first time attendee I found this a truly insightful event and will definitely attend future events”

“I found it reaffirmed some things but also gave me new ideas and tools”

“Michelle is an excellent speaker/presenter. Her knowledge of mindfulness is extensive and good to be reminded to put it back into practice!”

“Great practical techniques”

“Great session. Thank you :-)”

“Thank you, some great tips”

“Thought the presenter Michelle was very interesting”

“Very engaging presenter, I liked the informal everyday mindfulness technique”

“I didn’t think I was good at mindfulness but listening to Michelle I realised all the things I do are mindful – my way of coping – how fab to realise and feel I am good at looking after myself”

“Absolutely fabulous and really clearly explained in everyday language”

“Very clearly explained and very engaging”

“Yet another thought-provoking evening with a fascinating group of individuals”

Being Bold and Brave

16 April 2019

What a great night! Marie helped us to find ways to

  • Create a fulfilling life
  • Get some clarity on what we really want
  • Understand what is currently getting our way
  • Overcome the first barrier

It was a fun, interactive evening delving into how we could be bolder and braver!  We found and practiced ways to tap into our inner strengths and then pulled on these resources to step out of our comfort zone and take the first initial brave and bold steps towards living our lives in a more fulfilling way.

From the event:

Marie Smith

Marie’s philosophy on life is “Live the Life You Want!” and she leads by example. Having left employment in 2012 to set up her own leadership coaching and executive development business SUCCESSMITH, she currently works on a one-to-one basis and with groups including private individuals, business owners and organisations.  Marie sees her role as supporting others to overcome obstacles that get in the way and stop them from achieving what they want in life, both at work and at home.  For more information, case studies and testimonials see the SUCCESSMITH website: https://successmith.co.uk/

Marie also co-founded and co-leads the Aspiring Women Groups in London and Dorset.
