Personal Impact:

Letting your best you shine through!

22 January 2019

Making a good first impression is often top of our personal impact wish list – making sure that when we enter a room, we create the ‘right’ vibe about who we are and what we are capable of. And of course there are other ways in which we might want to have an impact and influence others’ impressions of us:

– what we are known for

– what we are liked for

– what we are trusted for

But how often do we feel frustrated that we are not being seen the way we want to be seen? That we are not recognised for having a strength or skill that we know we’ve got, but somehow others miss in us?

In this first session of 2019, Ginette took us through an evening of discovering our personal impact score and working out strategies to increase our scores through practical and fun exercises.

Dealing with Difficult Conversations

Dealing With Difficult Conversations

16 October 2018

There’s a very good chance we’ve all had to deal with a difficult, awkward or downright embarrassing conversation at some point! So what makes one conversation more difficult than another? Why do some of us squirm while others seem to be able to plough on regardless?

In this practical and interactive session, Ginette unpacked the elements of a difficult conversation and helped us to understand what and how we can influence and change things for the better (and our own comfort!).

We walked away with:

  • an understanding of the core elements of a difficult conversation
  • which of those elements specifically apply to you
  • how you can influence them before, during and after a conversation
  • how to approach, hold and walk away from a conversation feeling great about it – even if the subject matter is ‘tricky’
  • and our own copy of the PEACEOUT framework to use in the future!

From the event:

“Ginette is such a great presenter = honest, easy to discuss topics with and share feedback”

“Very interesting to listen and also great getting involved”

“PEACEOUT framework is new to me. Really clever and useful tool!”

“Don’t put off coming to a session because they are fab and add massive value to my day to day!”

“Very helpful for my day by day situations – so much better prepared”

“I was looking for something different to Susan Scott’s Fierce Conversation, so it’s made me think differently”

“Great tips on how to approach and stay engaged in difficult situations. The anchor was a very useful tool”

“I think listening on how other people analyse the stages on the sheet was very insightful and have learnt a few golden nuggets to use”

“Walking away more confident to face more difficult conversations”

“Great session, thank you. Some great discussions with the ladies on my table which really helped too”

“Great to meet new people and have a focus on the communication – not worrying about ‘giving a pitch’ but rather having relevant, informative discussions in a relaxed environment”

“Really valuable personal development in a friendly and open environment”

Unmasking the Impostor:

spotting and sorting impostor syndrome

17 July 2018

This session discussed the irrational but very ‘real’ self -doubt feeling known as Impostor Syndrome. It facilitated self-awareness, offered insight and provided tactics. Most importantly it opened up a conversation!
The session covered:
  • What is Impostor Syndrome
  • How to spot and sort it
  • Owning achievement
  • Getting rational with emotions
  • Being you in a ‘comparing world’

From the event:

Massive ‘yay’ to this event – cleared so much of the feelings I have had all my life!

Trisha was very engaging and clearly knowledgeable in her field. Her style was informal in the best way.

Thank you so much for another great evening! A great presentation by a brilliant facilitator. I feel more confident and have a better outlook already!

An excellent and useful session with the perfect balance of theory and activities.

Came away feeling motivated and inspired. Great to hear other people’s thoughts and feelings on the topic. Thank you!

What a great event tonight! Was having such a hard day at work and nearly didn’t attend, so glad I did. Re-energised!

Felt better that others are in the same boat. Friendly group.

Made me feel more human! Also not to put such high demands on myself.

Great event. It’s nice to talk about a subject that is difficult to bring up at work (a male-dominated environment).

This was just the top-up on this subject that I needed. Trisha was a great presenter.

Entertaining speaker on a very interesting and emotive subject.

This was my first event – thank you for having me and making me feel so welcome. I though Trisha was a fabulous speaker – so insightful and inspirational 🙂 I look forward to future events.

Great location and food. Enjoyed the presentation greatly.

Be True to Yourself With a Purpose Driven Life

17 April 2017

What a treat this event was!

We had a talk from Charly Young, CEO and co-founder of The Girls’ Network – an award-winning charity that matches girls from low income communities with a female mentor, in order to open networks and opportunities that the girls would otherwise not have access to. The Girls’ Network is our charity partner at Aspiring Women.

The power of women and girls supporting each other

How can we harness the experiences and energy of women to support girls and young women to be ambitious for their futures? To have the opportunities, the support and the confidence to discover and pursue their passions?

Charly shared her experiences as a secondary school teacher in one of the most disadvantaged communities in London, the challenges that the girls in her classroom were facing, and how this led her to establish a charity connecting women and girls.

She also talked about the ways in which The Girls’ Network are supporting more than 1,000 girls across the country each year, with the help of a fantastic network of women and men, and the impact that has been seen on the lives of the girls worked with.

After hearing Charly’s inspiring journey of finding and following her purpose Kelly led an exercise about understanding our purpose and how we can choose to be true to ourselves and lead a purpose driven life.

From the event:

‘It was a great event – love the network task’

‘Really inspiring session. Loved hearing about The Girls’ Network and having time to link that and discuss/reflect on our own personal passions’

‘Great session, finding out more about The Girls’ Network, the work they do and how to get involved’

‘A great event as always, with friendly, like-minded people’

‘Love the new venue! Fantastic topic and very inspiring to hear about The Girls’ Network. Good to hear where our money is going.’

‘Really enjoyed both presentations. Inspiring!’

‘Brilliant, was so glad I came. I have ideas, am re-motivated and feel really connected’

‘Location and car-parking very easy, thank you!’

Charly Young

Charly Young is CEO and Co-founder of The Girls’ Network

Prior to setting up The Girls’ Network, Charly trained as a secondary school teacher with Teach First in 2011, becoming an outstanding Geography and Citizenship teacher at a school in North West London.

It was then she saw first-hand the double disadvantages faced by the girls in her classroom. Challenges born from the expectations placed on them to look a certain way, act a certain way, pursue certain types of ‘female’ careers or life choices. And those stemming from the fact that they know no professional women, or could see no one like them in the roles or careers to which they might aspire.

It was this that inspired her to set up The Girls’ Network.

Charly has spoken at various conferences and events, including the 2014 ASGS annual conference and TEDx Youth. She has written articles for publications including the Guardian and the Huffington Post and has been approached by BBC Radio 4 and Radio 5 Live to contribute to discussions on education and girls.

Following a career working in Marketing, Communication and Relationship Management related roles for 15 years, during the start of its LEAN transformation programme, I volunteered for the opportunity to learn about continuous improvement whilst working at the RNLI and haven’t looked back since.

Moving onto LV= I worked in the General Insurance Operational change team and subsequently headed up the Continuous Improvement team within Technology.

Whilst at LV= I was part of the team that set up its first Women’s network and now working at JP Morgan I am an active participant in its many diversity programmes.

In September 2016 I gave birth to our son Xander, after years of focus on my career he’s certainly given me a chance to step back and appreciate life. He brings me tremendous joy every day and I feel very blessed.

Volunteering for Aspiring Women is my small way of paying it forward. I also love festivals, camping in our VW and creating our dream home.

Create More Whole Life Balance

Create More Whole Life Balance

10 April 2018

This brilliant interactive event facilitated by Kerrie Maitland a Career & Life Coach, was applicable to all who attended. Everyone went home with ideas to implement immediately!

We discussed the concept of what a realistic balanced life looked like for us, to get some focus to our thinking. Next we identified some changes we definitely wanted to make, then broke each ‘goal into manageable chunks.  Clearly nothing gets put in to practice without taking action so we supported each other to formulated actions to get us started.

It was an energising and inspiring evening  – the outcome was very tangible practical things each of us will do to make the changes we really want in our lives to create more balance.

Thank you Kerrie for the tools you shared and the inspiration to act!

From the event:

“Really great session with practical application and tips for getting focus on the right areas of life”

“Wonderful evening – a chance to focus on myself and share ideas with some fab like-minded women”

“Very useful event. Will apply new ideas tomorrow”

“Excellent, thought provoking and useful topic. Thank you for organising”
